Hey guys. Every now and then I'll be using my PC and do something with incredible ease, prompting me to think "this is nice, everybody could benefit to know about this". I thought it could be a good idea to compile a list of applications that people think are worth having or at least trying. If people will post applications, I will add them to this post in the necessary category (or a new one if that happens to make sense), followed by who recommended it. I've already put my favourites up.

Since when has Microsoft Office been free for students? It wasn't free for us, just cheap.

Oh, I thought for some reason that DreamSpark included Office... Not sure what exception was thrown to make me think that. I'll fix it, thanks.

Office is the one thing that all students need... so cha-ching! But students can get it for cheap (< AU$100), which is pretty good.

I'd suggest Paint.NET for graphics. Photoshop is unnecessary in most cases and Paint.NET is free (and written in .NET!).

Is always fine as long as you're contributing something, which you certainly are. I added Grooveshark to the list :)

Basically a free photoshop, although obviously not as good. Still, an amazing program for free.

If you use Google Chrome, this is a really neat extension.

I guess it's not free if you want what the paid version has. I'll update the OP to reflect that.

There's Open Office which is basically remakes of MS Office programs without the need of a license, for free.

Also, for social networking, there's linkedin. Pretty much a facebook of your work experience that you can forward to employers for referrals and etc.
