My primary goal is my mechanics. Always has and always be.
Always remember reading up on articles back in BW about how foreigners would believe that their mechanics would be so good and that it couldn't get any better but when they would go to Korea(NonY for example and IdrA), they realized that their mechanics were NOTHING compared to Koreans. And I believe FXOSheth said that recently as well in his recent trip to Korea, you may think your mechanics are good, but until you go to Korea you'll realize how shit they actually are.
With that being said, mechanics has always been something I always try to refine. If I lose a game because of a bad engagement, there is not much to analyze seeing that the bad engagement occured and I just need to play more to improve my Starsense and be able to distinguish good/bad positioning.
But if I lose a game after a 15minutes of macroing and my opponent just completely rolls over me, THEN I really dig into the replay and pick it apart and see what part of my mechanics is slacking.
Yes, this is a strategy game, but if you have your mechanics down to the tee, you can begin to develop your own strategies that are super refined and be able to truly figure out the flaws of the strategy you try to come up with.
That's just how I approach my gameplay. My 2 cents :).
