This debate has occurred on many forums in the past. There are a few schools of thought on the topic of GG etiquette. I'd like to hear some thoughts on it from you guys though. I was prompted to talk about it when I heard Chill and djWHEAT talk about it on djWHEAT's Weapon of Choice show (which is awesome btw).

Personally, I think if you get offended when someone leaves without saying GG, you've got a bit of a stick up your arse. If you think GG is a nice thing to do after a game, that's an expectation you've developed yourself over time. Nobody owes it to you to say GG. Sure, GG might be a polite thing to do, but that does not mean that omitting GG at the end of your play is an impolite thing to do.

Personally, 99% of the time I actually do say GG at the end of the game because it's my way of saying "I surrender, well played", but I would never criticise someone for not doing the same, because I'm not a fan of volunteering other people into my own etiquette on their behalf. I don't have that right.

Do you get offended if you beat someone and they don't GG?

I wouldn't say I get offended when someone doesn't say GG, but it's nice when they do. To me it's sort of in the same vein as saying "thank you". You don't have to say thank you when you leave someone's house, for example, (you could just say goodbye) but it is appreciated by the host when you do thank them.
Charity, if you have the means, is a personal choice, but charity which is expected or compelled is simply a polite word for slavery. ADMIN

Pretty much same as Dwain. I say gg 99% of the time, rare exceptions are when I'm on a bad losing streak and lose to mass lings or something (mostly talking about bw here, haven't played a whole lot of sc2 yet) but if someone leaves without saying gg, it's not like I'm going to message them saying "Where's my gg motherfucker?" They're usually just raging a little bit. Even with friends, I used to get really worked up when they didn't GG me when I won, but now I'd rather just let them cool off and play again.

On the other hand though.. If someone offensive gg's me when I'm losing but don't feel like giving up yet, it sends me batshit crazy.

i say gg when its gg.

GG has a meaning to me. Its not like "How are you" that you say and a person doesnt answer because it has lost its meaning. It just means hi now.

I say GG when i enjoyed the game - most often happens when i win lol. I dont care if someone doesnt say it to me.

I didn't like that the koreans always say GG and if they dont say GG its considered BM, but then i learnt that it doesnt have a meaning to them. ACtually it does but its different meaning. It means "i surrender. You beat me. I fucking hate it but you beat me. GG"

The reason I bring it up is because Chill (from tlnet) seems to really loathe when people don't GG. He's like "you have no excuse not to GG!! You should definitely GG!!" and I was just thinking "wow, do people really care that much about it :S"

I only say it if it's literally a good game, otherwise it's meaningless.

Ya, I really don't care one way or another. I would usually say GG when I lose, but if I am frustrated a lot of times I just quit the game. I agree in that I think people that get mad when the loser doesn't say GG are dumb. They're taking it way too seriously in my opinion. If someone msged me after and was like "where's my GG motherfucker?" I'd just be thinking that they should get a life. I remember watching Ret's stream a few years back and he would always get mad when his opponent didnt tell him gg. That's just dumb..

I pretty much agree with everyone else in this topic. GG to me is nice to hear, but its not always necessary. I always say GG. The only times I dont say GG are when either my opponent leaves, my opponent says GG before letting me type out GG, or when I leave the game and completely realize I forgot to say it. I don't mind when people say GG or when they don't. Yea it does feel nice but if someone doesn't say GG im not going to dwell over it. Its alright.

I have got a few laughs though when in the beginning of the game I say "hihi, glhf" and the response I get is "stfu". Haha, I've gotten that atleast 4 times.

I like it when the opponent says gg. But I don't expect it. The same way I like it when they say "hihi" or "gl hf" or something similar at the start of the game. It doesn't bug me when they don't, but it's nice to know the person on the other end acknowledges the fact there's another human on the other side. I don't want a conversation with everybody on the damn server, but I do start getting a little annoyed if I play a lot of games in a day and nobody says anything. Hell, even bm is alright; I just like to have confirmation I'm not playing against a succession of Deep Blues.

As for me, I never intentionally don't gg. I'm not going to say I always gg, because there are probably times I don't hit enter before I hit gg or something stupid like that (or hit enter after the first g, which I did in my last losing streak one time), but I do always type gg at the end of the game. I don't really care if others don't gg, but I would feel bad if I didn't.

I'm with Chill on this one. If you don't say GG it really just means that you're butthurt about losing. It's not the end of the world if they don't type it, it's just childish.
