mine is just poor quality. if i turn up the quality my fps drops massively (down to like 5-10). perhaps my computer is just not good enough?

i5 2400
4gb
radeon 6580

what should i be able to stream, quality wise?
could it be an internet issue? (i think my internet is decent though, have optus cable)

Video encoding is a matter of trial and error my friend. The i5 isnt a particularly good encoding device, and the RAM will definitely be your limiter there, but that system is pretty capable.

My advice (im not a streamer btw, but i have a moderate level of knowledge of good encoding practises) is first find your most stable FPS, thats watchable. place this at the lowest limit and slowly work your way up using a range of settings, im gonna tamper around tonight and will give you some more specific ideas in regards to what you can do to get the finite amounts of stuff out. Also setting affinity for your cores for programs can help, but if you have less than 8 (which in your case i think is true) you wont get much out of this.

here are some links for advice:

BTW echoes, no one can answer what quality you should be able to stream. The number of issues pertaining to something like live streaming are countless, manufacturers, hardware clashes, fabrication of hardware all play a role, you just have to experiment once you can actually stream. Do some net tests and check you upstream speeds. Mine are shocking for streaming....

Definitely agree with Pioneers post. If I remember correctly, you wanted to record your live sessions? Recording and streaming at the same time is very heavy on your system, especially with 4 gigs of RAM. If you wanted to record and stream, I would definitely suggest upgrading to 8 gigs of RAM, as it would be easier on your system.

However your system seems pretty capable of running at least at 480p. What program are you using to Stream?

Seriously check out that link, gives you advise for decent streaming software, and settings, and lets you know where you can mess around to get quality out of a stream. 480 should be possible, but recording and streaming, probably not.

Yeah most likely will not be able to run at 480p while recording. If you want to record VODs, I would suggest just recording and not streaming. I use Camtasia, you could also use FRAPs if your willing to pay the cash. Camtasia also requires to pay but you can find torrents online(thats how I got the full version).

all great advice i will have to check these things. Im using livestream. It gives me the option after recording to delete recording or not. perhaps i can turn off the recording function all together and that will let me stream better. alternatively it would be cool to be able to turn off the stream and just record, but i doubt that is possible. ill keep fiddling.

Yeah uncheck that. Your stream will run a lot smoother. The only way you can record using livestream is by streaming live. I know that because I thought of doing that for the GOTWs but realized my computer just wasn't capable of doing streaming/recording. Hopefully these things help ya out.
